Teva Oriata is Portland's only traditional Tahitian dance group (Pupu ‘Ori) that brings the color, vibrancy, and love of the islands to the NW with authentic dance performances done in handmade costumes to drums and melodies from across the waters. Weekly ‘Ori basics and intermediate classes are offered as well as beginner and intermediate hula workshops. Poi, fire poi, and Siva, costume making, and pehe/solo classes are offered on rotation. Traditional language, techniques, and translations of songs are incorporated to each class. Competition award winning soloists and group dancers.
Daily Classes/ Events
Boys 5+ and men. Mainly ‘Ori based, with introduction to hula for men.
6-7:30p = Beginner Vahine (women)
Basics and Foundation Class. Tahitian dance for beginners. Focus on technique, learning the names of each step, building stamina and flexibility, and learning the meaning behind choreography.

Learning the basics of the Maori ‘dexterity dance’
Women 12+. Perfecting technique, incorporating drills, learning to express the meaning behind choreography. Strengthening of movements. Competition options. Promo team for performances.
